Life Story: Fu-Yii Jim Wound, 74; Distinguished Pharmaceutical Career

Mr. Fu-Yii Jim Wound passed away on Sunday, January 8th, 2017, at his home in Somerset. He was 74 years old.

Born in Shanghai, China to the late Shu-Chen Weng and Mei-Ko Wang, Jim moved to Taiwan and graduated from the National Cheng Kung University in Tainan. He emigrated to the United States to study chemical engineering at the Southern Illinois University and the University of Michigan. He has lived in Michigan, West Virginia, and New York before settling in New Jersey.

He had a distinguished career for almost 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry, leading Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs for Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Warner Lambert Company. He chaired the Environment & Safety Committee of PhRMA from 1994-1997. He also served on advisory boards for the Biotechnology Research Center of Cornell University and the Hazardous Materials Research and Management Center of New Jersey Institute of Technology. Jim was an active member of Chemical Manufacturers Association and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association.

Jim enjoyed music, art, nature, and traveling to Asia and the rest of the world. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by many.

Mr. Wound is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean Wound; his daughters, Lily Wound and her husband Nathan Limpert, and Jennifer Wound and her husband Robert Haslehurst; and his adoring grandchildren, Cleo and Calla Limpert and Alexander Haslehurst.

Visitation and funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St.
