Life Story: Herbert ‘Herb’ Jager, 79; Advertising Art Director

Herbert W. “Herb” Jager, of Somerset died September 10 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 79.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he lived in Marlboro, Tenafly and Clifton before moving to Somerset 12 years ago.

Herb worked as an Art Director for various advertising companies in the New York City area for over 40 years before retiring in the early 1990s from Saatchi & Saatchi.

A talented artist and painter, Herb also enjoyed traveling, bird watching, spending time in nature, and especially spending time with his beloved family. His wife Judy of 56 years truly believes he was her better half with his great sense of humor, outgoing personality, selflessness and artistic ability.

All who knew him admired his legendary cleanliness and lovingly unfiltered opinions. Herb’s ability to put everyone at ease and his genuine care and concern for family and friends will be sorely missed.

He is predeceased by his parents, Irving & Diane Jager; and beloved grandson, Gage.

Surviving are his wife, Judith; son and daughter-in-law, Eric & Lisa Jager of Somerset; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie & Bill Dobson of Basking Ridge; and grandsons, Zachary and Matthew.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. September 14 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, with a service at 1:30 PM. Rabbi Dennis Tobin will officiate.

Donations in his loving memory can be made to Autism New Jersey or Good Grief in Morristown.
