Life Story: Edna Karlin, 88; Former Township Teacher

Edna Karlin, 88, a beloved teacher from Franklin Township, passed away on March 8, at Regency Heritage Care Center in Somerset.

Mrs. Karlin was born July 17, 1928 in Manhattan, New York to the late Irving and Matilda (Pickard) Levin. She lived in Bronx, NY, for a few years before settling in Somerset with her family.

Edna earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the City College of NY and later earned a Master’s in Education from Rutgers University. She started her teaching career in the Bronx and continued with the Franklin Township Public School System from 1960 until her retirement in 1984.

Mrs. Karlin was a proud member for many years at Temple Beth El in Somerset. She was a loving mother, an adoring grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her son, David Karlin and his wife Judy of Naples, FL; her daughter, Maureen Eskinazi and her husband Nessim of West Newton, MA; her grandchildren, Harrison, Nick, Solomon, Dan and Eliana; and her great grandchildren, Elise and Asher.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 10 at Temple Beth El, 1489 Hamilton Street, Somerset. Rabbi Eli Garfinkel will be officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus.

Family will be sitting Shiva at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at the Regency Heritage Care Center 380 Demott Lane, Somerset.
