Life Story: Charles Thomas, 84; Carpenter, F&A Mason

Charles Thomas passed away May 23 at Somerset Woods in Somerset. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Thomas was born in Suffolk, Virginia and had resided in Somerset for over 60 years.

He retired from Local 156 in New Brunswick as a Carpenter. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset where he served as an Usher and on the T.I.P.S team. He loved dogs and was a fan of the horse races. He was a Free and Accepted Mason and Charles was awarded 35 years of service with the Prince Hall Grand Lodge F. A. M, Progressive Lodge #17 in 2007.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Charlotte Kelley and her husband Robert of Somerset, Debra Wallace also of Somerset and Karen Thomas Brookings of North Carolina.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Tiesha Wallace, Ricky Wallace Jr., Andrew Wallace, Elijah Wallace, Joshua Wallace, Charlene Kelley, Gavan Williams Jr., Jamea Thomas, Jada Brookins, Jordan Brooks, and Jayden Thomas, 5 great grandchildren, Kadir Nelson, Jaier Nelson, Laila Wallace, Noah Wallace, and Nina Wallace along with a host of nieces and nephews family and friends.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. June 2 at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens on Somerset Street in Somerset. Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
