FHS Sports: Lady Warriors Fall To Paterson Eastside, 56-44 (With Photo Gallery)

3-12-14 girls vs eastside09There was a point in the first quarter of the NJSIAA Group 4 semifinals game against Paterson Eastside when it looked as though the contest was going to be a classic Lady Warriors battle, with both teams trading baskets.

The Warriors even took a slight lead, at 13-10.

The first hint of trouble came during the final 45 seconds of the frame, during when Eastside scored five points to take a 15-13 lead at the buzzer.

Things didn’t improve for the remainder of the game, which Eastside took by a score of 56-44.

Eastside outscored the Warriors 21-12 in the second quarter to take a commanding 36-25 lead into the half.

Eastside increased their lead to 15 points by the end of the third quarter posting a 47-32 lead.

The Warriors kept chipping away, however, even outscoring the Ghosts in the final frame, 12-9. But that was not enough.

Adreana Miller was the only Warrior to hit double digits, scoring 14 points, including one three-pointer.

Mary Trossi and Jaeda Wiildgoose each scored nine points, while Tahira Scott, with two three-pointers, scored seven.

Alexandra Jackson scored three points, while Amiya Rankins scored two points.

Warriors’ coach Audrey Taylor noted that the trouble really started in the third quarter.

“We had a little seal on the basket, couldn’t get the ball to drop, but that’s the way the game goes sometimes,” she said.

Now that her girls’ season is over, Taylor said she’s looking forward to next year.

“We’re excited about next year,” she said. “We have everybody coming back. As far as we went this year, you’d expect next year it will be a longer run.”

And although this was the furthest any of Taylor’s teams has advanced in her four years of coaching at Franklin, she said the “biggest win” was winning the fans’ support.

“It was an amazing ride, to see how the fans came out and supported us, the community and everything and everyone pulled together for these girls, to me, that was the biggest win,” she said. “So I hope that they come out again next year for these girls. The best part about that was the community support, and the fans. You can’t beat it.”
