‘Lady Warriors Day’ To Feature Elementary School Tour, ‘Dinner Of Champions’

May 2 is Lady Warriors Day in the township to celebrate the Franklin High School Lady Warriors’ basketball team’s perfect 34-0 championship season.

The day will be highlighted by a tour by the team of the township’s seven elementary schools, and a “Dinner of Champions” later that evening.

By finishing the season 34-0, the Lady Warriors were not only crowned the winners of the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions – the second time in three years – but they also set the state high school basketball single-season record for wins while going undefeated.

The team’s captain, Diamond Miller, was named a McDonald’s All-American, in addition to a number of other awards, and Lady Warriors’ Head Coach Audrey Taylor was named the USA Today Girls High School Basketball Coach of the Year.

The Lady Warriors Day is being coordinated by the FHS Athletics Booster Club.

The “parade” visiting the seven elementary schools will allow the “younger generation of students (to) see these role models and learn from them how leading a disciplined life with their academic studies and athleticism leads to success,” according to a letter about the day sent out by the Booster Club.

The Booster Club is also seeking donations from patrons which will fund the purchase of memorabilia for the team: “a championship jacket, warm up suit, socks, shooting shirt, and hat,” according to the letter.

The club is looking for 100 people to donate $100 each, according to the letter.

Patrons will also have their names included in the dinner journal.

Tickets for the dinner, which will be at 6 p.m. at the Fair Bridge Hotel, 195 Davidson Ave., are $34 each, to commemorate the 34 wins.
