In Your Opinion: Towns Can’t Allow Companies To Ruin Quality Of Life

Before I get rolling, a bit about the author. I am not an environmentalist and I am pro-business. Not every business is going to be perfect so a town has to be flexible if it wants tax revenue. That said, you cannot allow companies to ruin your quality of life for the people around them; farting in the elevator you might say. A recent example in Frankin is Molecuwire, which is now gone.

I was in bed watching the Township Council meeting and don’t really care about the pipe line since I am not directly impacted, but I am a resident of Franklin. I got out of bed and went to the meeting just to see what it is about. I have to compliment my fellow residents, they did a great job making their case.

All I did was stand in the back of the room and listen , I eventually got up and asked questions about what I heard .

It is my opinion that no major company sends out a staff to sell the idea without knowing the math. I got the feeling they sent rodeo clowns out to sell Franklin on the idea. First off, they are using Trap Rock property as their springboard but the man said they have no idea how much Trap Rock is charging to use their land. This is obviously a lie. They said PSEG can’t deliver electric or it is impractical. This is obviously a lie. If they do not know their cost per mile then I would not want a company like that anywhere near Franklin. I went from the being ambivalent to frightened about this company just by listening to their answers.

Franklin Township can change the assessment of Trap Rock property so Franklin will benefit, but I don’t think its worth it. I also became concerned because of all the soft answers and non-answers they gave. I also have the memory of Molecuwire in Franklin so I am worried.
