Housing Resource Center Sponsors Home Buyer Education Program

A local housing non-profit is providing a free home buyer education program from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at the township library in the Municipal Complex on DeMott Lane.

The program is geared to help potential home buyers learn about programs and down payment and closing cost grants along with the many topics to help unravel the complexity of what to know before considering home ownership.

Lunch will be provided.

The program, sponsored by the Central Jersey Housing Resource Center of Raritan, will feature the following speakers: Kathy Schulhafer from Investors Bank, Jonathan Kessler from Kuker & Kessler Real Estate, Vipul Verma, State Farm and Sital Shah, a real estate attorney.

Topics to be covered include: The mortgage process and homeowners insurance; the role of the Realtor, home inspector and real estate attorney in the home purchase process, and resources available to provide down payment grants and other help.

A focus is also on strategies to improve finances in an effort to better prepare for home ownership. Clients completing the program obtain a certificate which qualifies them for benefits such as lower mortgage rates, reduced legal fees, and special grant programs to help with closing costs and down payments.
