Hopkins’ Two Go Ahead Hits Leads To 8th Patriots Win

72515newsBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (12-5, 62-25) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (7-9, 49-37) 4-3 Saturday evening before a season high 8,164 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots extended their winning streak to eight games.

 

In the top of the second inning center fielder Jamar Walton recorded a RBI ground out to give Southern Maryland a 1-0 advantage.

 

Catcher James Skelton recorded a RBI sacrifice fly to even the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

 

The Blue Crabs retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning as catcher Craig Maddox slugged a RBI double making the score 2-1.

 

The Patriots jumped in front via third baseman Greg Hopkins’ two run home run (8) making the score 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

First baseman Zach Wilson hammered a game tying home run (5) in the top of the eighth inning evening the score at 3-3.

 

Hopkins delivered again with a RBI single in the home half of the eighth inning as he made the score 4-3 which would be the final.

 

Andrew Carignan earned the win (2-2) in relief. Cody Eppley suffered the loss (2-3). Jon Hunton notched the save (23) pitching a scoreless final inning.
