The Environmental Education Center (EEC), 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, will be the location for a fun-filled weekend for children and their parents in celebration of Halloween, 2015.

“By the Light of the Moon,” for children and adults of all ages, is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2015 with walks beginning every 15 minutes between 6:30 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. Program time includes a one-hour walk plus indoor activities and refreshments. (Rain date Saturday, October 17.)

During the walk, a Naturalist will lead adventurers through the Great Swamp, listening for animal sounds and using night vision along the swampy trails beneath the stars. Space is limited and pre-registration is required at 908-766-2489 (NJ Relay 711), at www.somersetcountyparks.org, or in person at the EEC. Fee is $6 per person.

“Halloween Hullabaloo” will provide 3-hours of continuous enjoyment for family and friends of all ages on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. The wild afternoon activities will begin with Rizzo’s Reptile Discovery, a live reptile show that will include some of nature’s creepiest creatures. Following the animal show carnival-like games will be available for the entire family to enjoy and refreshments and music will be included. Suggested donation is $5 per person and pre-registration is not required.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is located within Lord Stirling Park, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, and is nestled within 425 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. A swamp vivarium, and an environmentally based library are located within the Center itself.
