Greg Golson Delivers A Walk Off In Patriots 5-4 Win Over York

Bridgewater, NJ-   For the second straight night the Somerset Patriots (34-21) defeated the York Revolution (21-34) in walk off fashion, winning 5-4 before 6,970 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Golson’s well-placed single past the third base bag scored Justin Pacchioli for the winning run.

“I was hitting the ball hard all game and they were making some good plays on me,” said Golson. “I just wanted to make sure I was swinging at strikes and didn’t try too hard in that at bat.”

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Somerset rallied for four runs to take the lead. Tyler Bortnick got the Patriots on the board with an RBI double. Pacchioli followed suit with a two-run double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Rodriguez for a 4-2 advantage.

The Revolution tied up the game in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI base hit by Isaias Tejada and an RBI groundout by Michael Burgess.

York took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Cruz. They extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Travis Witherspoon (3) that made the score 2-0.

Ronnie Shaban (2-1) got the win with 0.2 innings of work. Ricardo Gomez (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing the winning run on two hits in 0.2 innings. Mitch Atkins went 8.1 innings in a no decision.
