Gonzalez Hits Go-Ahead Home Run To Lead To 2-1 Patriots Win

79gonzalezwebBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (5-1, 43-33) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (2-3, 36-38) 2-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening. With the win, the Patriots are 7-1 in their last eight games played.

 

The Barnstormers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a home run by Sean Halton (9).

 

Somerset responded with a run in the bottom of the frame on a Bryan LaHair RBI single that tied up the game.

 

The Patriots took the lead in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Yovan Gonzalez (2).

 

“The first pitch was a curveball. The next one was a sinker in. He left it over the plate and I got lucky and turned on it,” said Gonzalez, who finished 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in the contest.

 

Eric Farris went 3-for-4 with a run scored to help pace the Somerset offense.

 

Donovan Hand (3-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on six hits in six innings pitched. Bryan Evans (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his 20th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched. Hunton has saved 13 straight attempts.

 

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on Sunday night with a 5:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
