Updated: Funeral For State Trooper Killed In Car Crash Set For St. Matthias Church

Update: JFK Boulevard will be closed to all but funeral traffic during parts of June 3 and 4, according to township police: On June 3, the road will be closed between New Brunswick Road and Hamilton Street from 1-9 p.m. On June 4, the road will be closed in the same area from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Matthias School will hold a half-session on June 3 and will be closed on June 4.

Original story: The wake and funeral for a New Jersey State Trooper killed early in the morning of May 30 will be held at St. Matthias Church on John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Trooper Anthony Raspa, 24, of Highland Park, was killed on Route 195 in Upper Freehold when his cruiser hit a deer and then veered into the woods and hit a tree. Raspa’s partner, Trooper Gene Hong, 29, was injured in the accident.

Raspa was a 2004 graduate of St. Matthias School, and his family are parishioners at the church.

The wake has been scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. on June 3, with the funeral Mass scheduled for 11 a.m. June 4. The Mass will be private.

Expect delays if you are traveling near JFK Boulevard, especially late in the morning to early afternoon on June 4. Police said part of JFK will be closed June 4.
