Franklin Native Becomes Newest Police Officer

Malcolm Belvin is sworn in to the township police department by Township Clerk Ann Marie McCarthy.

One of Franklin’s own is its newest police officer.

Malcolm Belvin was sworn in at the May 11 Township Council meeting.

Belvin, a graduate of Franklin High School, was most recently a member of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department, said township Police Chief Lawrence Roberts.

“I always like to say when we have the opportunity to hire somebody from Franklin Township, it’s always good to hire someone from Franklin,” Roberts said. “Malcolm went through Franklin schools, so he’s a product of the township. We’re happy to have him aboard. Middlesex’s loss is our gain.

“We have high hopes for Malcolm, I think he’s going to do well,” he said.

“You always have to feel good when we get one of our own from Franklin,” Mayor Phil Kramer said. “They’re going to understand the problems here and the issues here in Franklin and help things move along.”
