FR&A Pictorial: Giving Tuesday At Center For Great Expectations

Giving Day10

Kenia Blanco and her son, Junior, took part in the Center for Great Expectation’s observance of Giving Tuesday.

The residents at the Center for Great Expectations on Dellwood Lane tok part in an exercise in giving and getting Dec. 2, the third annual national Giving Tuesday.

The women and their children at the center received a home-cooked meal after they made holiday ornaments that will be donated to the seniors at the nearby McCarrick Care Center.

“It’s important for them to give back as well as receive,” said Peg Wright, founder and president of the center, which provides shelter and counseling for pregnant and parenting adolescents, women and their children.

“Around this time of year we really like to focus on gratitude and, in the adult program, gratitude is a big piece of recovery, recognizing what your blessings are,” she said. “This fits perfectly into it.”

Among the crafters was Kenia Blanco and her 2-year-old son, Junior.

“We have to be thankful for what we get,” Kenia Blanco said. “It’s nice to help other people like people help us.”
