Four-Vehicle Crash Injures Three, Shuts Down Parts Of Easton Avenue
A four-vehicle accident on Easton Avenue during rush hour July 18 resulted in three injuries and a partial closure of the road, police said.
Police said a 1998 Freightliner dump truck driven south on Easton by Antonio Gomes, 58, of Linden rear-ended a 2007 Acura RDX driven by Francisco Camacho, 59, of Somerset. The accident’s impact pushed Camacho’s car off the road.
The dump truck continued on, rear-ending a 2017 Cadillac XT driven by Liqui Li, 29, of Nebraska, police said.
Gomes’ truck then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit head-on a 2000 Isuzu box truck driven by Luis Palacios, 50, of Jersey City, police said.
Police said Camacho and his passenger, a 59-year-old woman, needed to be extricated from the car by firefighters.
Camacho and his passenger and Palacios were transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said.
Gomes and Li were not injured in the accident, police said.
Gomes was cited for careless driving, police said.
Parts of Easton Avenue were closed for about two hours during the accident’s investigation and cleanup, police said.
