Contract to Repave Part of Canal Road Awarded to Somerville Firm

A Somerville firm is the winner of a nearly $400,000 contract to repave part of Canal Road and Market Street.

The Township Council at its Sept. 24 meeting awarded Top Line Construction the $380,334.37 contract to repave Canal Road from Blackwells Mills Road to Market Street, and also market Street.

Township manager Bob Vornlocker said the project should get its necessary approvals from the Delaware & Raritan Canal Commission.

“We’d very much like to get that road paved by the winter, so it doesn’t need to be continually patch-worked,” he said.

“That’s been underway for quite a while,” said Councilman Philip Kramer, D-Ward 3.

Kramer said the township should be caught up with its road program in about two years, after which, he hoped, the township could come up with “a more structured future way of planning to pave roads.”
