Carter’s Brook Bridge Project Necessitates Traffic Shifts

Shoulder work on the northbound side of Route 27, over Carter’s Brook, is completed, allowing for work on the rest of the bridge to continue.

Northbound traffic on Route 27 over the Carter’s Brook Bridge will be shifted for the next several months starting May 11.

The shift will divert northbound traffic to the right, on the shoulder, while work is competed in the center portion of the bridge, according to a press release from the state Department of Transportation.

The first step will be to place concrete barriers and re-stripe Rt. 27 over the bridge, which will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 11. Traffic will be alternated during that time, according to the release.

The southbound lane of Rt. 27 will not be affected once the shift is in place, according to the release.

The Carter’s Brook Bridge project is part of a $3.4 million construction project for that bridge and the Ten Mile Run Tributary bridge. Culverts for both will be replaced.

The Ten Mile Run portion will start after the Carter’s Brook section is completed.

When completed, the bridges will have a single 12-foot-wide travel lane in each direction and an expanded 8-foot-wide shoulder in each direction, according to the release. A temporary bridge is being constructed along the west-side of the existing culverts to allow for traffic flow to be maintained at all times.

The projects are expected to be completed by early 2018, according to the release.

Variable message signs will be used to alert drivers to lane changes.
