Records were set in 2016 by the Canal Walk community’s food drives for the Franklin Food Bank.

On Dec. 3, the community donated 4,100 pounds of food, bringing the year’s total to a record 5,600 pounds. Monetary donations for December totaled $1,490, bringing the year’s total to another record of $2,800.

The Canal Walk Men’s Club distributes ShopRite-donated plastic bags to every unit in the community, and on Dec. 3 club volunteers covered the entire community to pick up the food which was left by the mail boxes.

The foodbank left one van at the Club House to begin and, as this van was filled, a second van was delivered. The second van was about three-quarters full when the last pickups were loaded.

The Canal walk Community’s aim is “Help make this season a little easier for families and individuals who depend on the Food Bank for Support.”
