Bees Double Up Patriots 4-2

Bridgewater, NJ-   The New Britain Bees (7-8, 33-52) defeated the Somerset Patriots (7-8, 49-36) 4-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

 

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Christian Marrero (3).

 

The Bees tied up the game in the top of the third inning on an RBI ground out by Jovan Rosa.

 

New Britain took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Yusuke Kajimoto in the top of the fifth inning.

 

The Bees added two runs to their advantage in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Jamar Walton (9) and a sacrifice fly by James Skelton to make the score 4-1.

 

Somerset cut the lead in half on Justin Pacchioli’s RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 4-2 final.

 

“We had a lot of hits on the board, but never came up with that big hit to drive in some runs,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “We had some opportunities, but came up a little short.”

 

Nick Greenwood (1-2) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on eight hits in six innings pitched. Connor Root (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in five innings pitched. Sean Gilblair came in for his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.
