Barnstormers Win Liberty Division Series Over Patriots

92814recapBridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (3-2) defeated the Somerset Patriots (2-3) 9-1 Sunday afternoon in Game Five of the Liberty Division Series from TD Bank Ballpark. With the victory the Barnstormers advance to their 3rd Atlantic League Championship Series in franchise history. Lancaster won games one, four, and five to win this best-of-five series 3-2.

 

The Barnstormers powered their way to victory as they launched four home runs in Game Five and drilled eight home runs in the series.

 

In the bottom of the second inning All-Star catcher Adam Donachie drilled a home run (1) to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

 

Center fielder Greg Golson socked a game tying home run (2) in the ensuing half inning to even the contest at 1-1.

 

Lancaster sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning and scored six runs on seven hits to grab a commanding 7-1 lead. Catcher Keith Castillo and Golson collected RBI singles while right fielder Brett Carroll pounded a RBI double. The big blast in the frame was an opposite field three run home run (2) by left fielder Blake Gailen.

 

The Barnstormers received back-to-back home runs from first baseman Gabe Jacobo (1) and Castillo to increase their lead to 9-1.

 

Chris Schwinden (2-0) earned the victory tossing a complete game on three days’ rest. He threw 137 pitches and allowed one run on seven hits. Erik Arnesen (0-1) endured the loss allowing two runs in 3.1 innings of work.
