7 Run 9th Inning Leads To 8-1 Patriots Win

june01FINALgame1Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (25-11) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (16-20) 8-1 in nine innings of a scheduled seven inning game at Harbor Yard Monday evening. The squads were supposed to play a doubleheader but game two was postponed due to rain. There will now be a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 10:35 a.m. with the second contest starting 30 minutes after the first ends. Each game will be seven innings.

 

In the top of the fourth inning first baseman Andres Rodriguez hit a RBI sacrifice fly to give Bridgeport a 1-0 advantage.

 

Left fielder Scott Cousins pounded a game tying RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 1-1.

 

The Patriots broke open the game in the top of the ninth inning as they sent 12 men to the plate to tally seven runs on eight hits. Center fielder Johnny Tucker, catcher James Skelton and designated hitter Thomas Neal each roped RBI doubles. Shortstop Robert Andino and right fielder Chris Marrero each pounded RBI singles while Cousins blooped a two RBI single.

 

Buddy Boshers earned the win (2-0) in relief. Nate Baker suffered the loss (0-1) in relief.
