7 Run 11th Inning Breaks Game Open For Patriots
Sugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (30-24, 80-44) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-31, 59-65) 11-4 in 11 innings Friday evening at Constellation Field.
In the top of the first inning first baseman Michael Burgess blasted a two run home run (13) to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.
Shortstop Nate Spears sprayed a two RBI single in the top of the second inning to expand the Patriots lead to 4-0.
The Skeeters got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning when second baseman Jeff Dominguez slugged a home run (4) to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Sugar Land received a two run home run from center fielder Denny Almonte (9) in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 4-3.
Dominguez completed the cycle in the bottom of the seventh inning with a game tying RBI triple to even contest at 4-4.
Somerset broke open the game with a seven spot in the top of the 11th inning to make the score 11-4 which would be the final. Second baseman Greg Hopkins sliced a RBI double. Catcher Adam Donachie belted a two RBI single. Spears tallied a RBI single and third baseman David Vidal added a three run home run (9).
Kyler Newby earned the win (8-4). Cory VanAllen suffered the loss (5-3).
