5 Run First Inning Propels Patriots To 5-1 Win

913newsBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (35-27, 85-47) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (40-23, 68-65) 5-1 Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark in the rubber match of the series.

 

In the bottom of the first inning shortstop Robert Andino blasted a leadoff home run (4) and third baseman David Vidal cranked a grand slam (11) to give Somerset a 5-0 advantage.

 

Left fielder Zach Collier laced a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 5-1.

 

Matt Zielinski earned the win (8-3) tossing six scoreless innings. Shunsuke Watanabe endured the loss (6-5) lasting seven innings while surrendering five runs.
