Somerset Shuts Out Southern Maryland 4-0

Waldorf, Maryland – Four different Somerset Patriots (33-27) pitchers combined to toss a four-hit shutout over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (25-35) in a 4-0 win Monday night at Regency Furniture stadium.

Somerset jumped ahead in the fourth inning with a four-run frame. Justin Pacchioli drew a bases-loaded walk to open up the scoring before Mike Fransoso added a two-run single. Pacchioli scored on a wild pitch two batters later to top off the scoring. That inning would provide the only offense for either side in the entire ballgame.

Kyle Davies (2-3) tossed 5.2 shutout innings to earn the win. Chase Huchingson, Dustin Molleken and Dustin Antolin combined to record the final 10 outs in the contest to shut out the Blue Crabs on just four hits.

“Davies is really getting more and more consistent each time out,” said manager Brett Jodie. “Tonight he commanded the zone well and brought up different pitches in different innings. He made big pitches when he needed to. The ball was really coming out of his hand well tonight.”

Brett Marshall (2-1) allowed four runs over eight innings to suffer the loss.

The New Britain Bees were idle tonight so the Patriots’ magic number to clinch the first half Liberty Division Championship is now at two. Somerset can clinch the division as early as Tuesday night with a win and a New Britain loss.

The Patriots and Blue Crabs continue their four-game series Tuesday night. Right-handed pitcher David Kubiak (3-1, 3.03 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Blue Crabs’ righty Casey Delgado (4-4, 3,43 ERA). First pitch at Regency Furniture Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on Friday, July 6th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Road Warriors at 7:05 pm. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com
