Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signings of outfielders Robbie Widlansky and Cory Harrilchak.
Widlansky has experience in the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organizations, reaching the Triple-A level twice.
“Robbie does a lot of things well. He is that hard nose type of player that you need on your team. He has some power, he is a tough out, he can run a little and play a few different positions. I look for special things from Robbie this season and we are happy to have him as part of the Patriots,” said Brett Jodie, Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
He spent time last season at the Triple A level for the Angels in Salt Lake and hit .367 with 18 hits and 11 RBI in 16 games. At Double-A last season, Widlansky hit .261 with 82 hits, 13 doubles, eight home runs, and 46 RBI in 88 games played.
Widlansky has a minor league career .283 batting average, 271 runs, 626 hits, 141 doubles, 46 home runs, and 334 RBI in 615 games played.
Harrilchak has experience in the Atlanta Braves organization, where he reached as high as Triple-A in 2012.
He spent the 2013 season in Southern Illinois of the independent Frontier League and finished with a .332 batting average, 45 runs, 70 hits, 10 doubles, five home runs, 33 RBI, and 33 stolen bases in 61 games played.
Harrilchak has a minor league career .281 batting average, 215 runs, 436 hits, 87 doubles, 18 triples, 18 home runs, 209 RBI, and 81 stolen bases in 441 games played.
“I have heard great reviews from many people about Cory. I think he will come up big for us this season in a lot of ways. He will be great defensively in the outfield, he has a plus arm, he will be a base stealing threat and he handles the bat very well. He will be that spark plug that we need,” said Jodie.
