Somerset Patriots Re-Sign MLB Pitcher Gus Schlosser

schlosseralBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signing of Major League pitcher Gus Schlosser.

“I’m looking forward to getting back up there and getting into games,” Schlosser said. “ It will be fun to see some of the returning guys from last year’s team again. Hopefully we can win another championship.”

Schlosser returns for his second season with the Somerset Patriots and second in the Atlantic League. The righty appeared in 17 games with the Patriots last season after joining the team in early August. He went 1-0 with a 3.78 ERA and one save over 19 innings pitched.

The Sarasota, Florida native spent the first four seasons of his career in the Atlanta Braves organization. He reached the majors in 2014, where he made 15 relief appearances. He has been used as both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher over his career, including a 2.39 ERA over 25 starts with Double-A Mississippi in 2013.

“Gus potentially has the best stuff and most unique delivery of all our guys,” manager Brett Jodie said. “I think he is in the right place both mentally and physically to maximize his potential and have a solid year. Gus is extremely talented and really creates an uncomfortable at-bat for hitters. He can both start and relieve for us, and we look forward to seeing where he fits best with our staff this season.”

Prior to joining the Patriots last year, Schlosser made 28 appearances (three starts) with Double-A New Britain in the Colorado Rockies organization. He won seven games with the now-defunct Rock Cats.

The 2011 Braves draft pick owns a 37-24 record over his five-year professional career with a 3.44 ERA and nine saves over 517.2 innings of work.
The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
