Somerset Patriots Land INF/OF Jayce Boyd

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of infielder/outfielder Jayce Boyd. He will be active for Thursday’s day game against the New Britain Bees.

Boyd enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and in the Atlantic League. The first baseman/outfielder began the season with the St. Paul Saints of the American Association, where he hit .270 over 25 games. 

The Cantonment, Florida native began his professional career in the New York Mets organization after he was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. Boyd quickly rose through the ranks of the Mets system, reaching the Triple-A level with the Las Vegas 51’s in both 2015 and 2016. That included a .297 record with a career-high 11 home runs, 46 RBI and a .371 on-base percentage over 92 games in Triple-A last year.

Boyd’s best season came in 2013 in time split between Single-A Savannah and High-A St. Lucie. The Florida State alumnus was named a Mid-Season All-Star in the South Atlantic League and a MiLB.com Mets Organization All-Star that year after he hit .330 with nine home runs, 83 RBI, 29 doubles and a .410 on-base percentage over 123 combined games.

Boyd enjoyed a notable three-year collegiate career at Florida State. There, he ranks as the program’s all-time leader in putouts (1,641). He was also named a First-Team All American by the ABCA and Perfect Game after his 2012 junior season. He led the ACC in hits (96) and ranked in the top 10 in the league in average (.376) and on-base percentage (.452) that season.

The 27 year-old has split time defensively between first base and left field evenly over the course of his seven-year professional career. Boyd owns a .289 career batting average with 37 home runs and 272 RBI.
