Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of outfielder Greg Golson.
Golson enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and his fourth in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. His Atlantic League career includes 2013-14 with the Lancaster Barnstormers and 2016 with the New Britain Bees.
Last season, Golson was a key member of the New Britain offense, batting .292 with 111 hits, three home runs, 40 runs scored and 18 stolen bases.
Golson was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1st round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft out of high school. The Austin, Texas native worked his way up through the Philadelphia Phillies organization, ultimately making his MLB debut on September 3, 2008.
Golson’s major league career consists of 40 games from 2008-2011 while playing for the Phillies, Texas Rangers, and the New York Yankees. As a big leaguer, Golson notched eight hits with two doubles, two RBI, and six runs scored.
Prior to joining Somerset, Golson played in 27 games this season with Quintana Roo of the Mexican League, batting .260 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI.
Over his 14-year career, Golson owns a .272 career batting average with 90 home runs, 572 RBI, and 293 stolen bases in 1,418 career games.
Golson has been activated for this weekend’s series against the Bridgeport Bluefish this weekend.
