School District Celebrates ‘Franklin’s Finest’

Hundreds of students, parents, teachers and administrators gathered at Franklin High School Jan. 7 to basically celebrate the township school district.

The morning-long program featured presentations on curriculum in the schools, a demonstration of high school robotics, a student art gallery and information sessions on initiatives being undertaken by the district, among other things.

The biggest draw, however, was the “District Showcase,” during which performing arts groups from throughout the township showed off their stuff.

The day was capped by a mass singing of “Let There Be Peace On Earth.”

Performing at the showcase were:

  • The Sparkle Effect cheerleaders
  • The FHS Junior ROTC Color Guard and Drill Team
  • Sydney Wade
  • The FHS Marching Band
  • Franklin Middle School dancers
  • The cast of “Dear America” from Franklin Middle School
  • Hillcrest School Dance Troupe
  • Danae Brown and Douglas Hood from the Franklin High School drama program
  • MacAfee Road School Dance Troupe
  • The cast of Peter Pan from Sampson G. Smith School
  • Franklin park School Dance Troupe
  • Franklin High School Dance program
  • Franklin High School Madrigals.

Schools Superintendent John Ravally said he hoped parents walked away with two thoughts in mind.

“First, we want our parents to realize the high level of work their students are doing, and the second thing is, we want our parents to understand the direction the district is going with all the wonderful initiatives we have in place,” he said.

Board of Education president Ed Potosnak said called the day “amazing.”

“There’s a lot of positive energy,” he said. “A lot of hard work went into this day and it really paid off. It’s just a taste of all the good things that are happening in our schools. It’s good to see parents excited about their kids and opening their eyes to other opportunities that might be available. It’s been a really wonderful day.”

Following are some scenes from the day.
