Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (26-11) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (16-21) 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at Harbor Yard. This was supposed to be a doubleheader but game two was postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced.
In the bottom of the first inning third baseman Sean Burroughs hit a RBI groundout to give Bridgeport a 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Burroughs committed a throwing error that led to a run and another crossed home plate via right fielder Scott Cousins’ RBI single.
Third baseman Scott Kelly roped a RBI single to expand the Somerset lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
Randy Boone tossed a complete game to earn the win (1-1) as he allowed just one run on three hits. Reinaldo Lopez suffered the loss (0-1) in his Atlantic League debut. He surrendered two earned runs on eight hits.
