Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (8-6, 54-29) won 5-2 in the rubber match over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (7-7, 36-48) Wednesday afternoon from Regency Furniture Stadium.
In the top of the second inning catcher Damaso Espino slugged a solo home run (1) to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.
Left fielder Ty Wright drilled a two run home run (7) in the top of the fourth inning to expand the Patriots lead to 3-0.
Southern Maryland plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2 as designated hitter CJ Ziegler pounded a two RBI double.
Shortstop Scott Kelly poked a two RBI single to increase the Patriots lead to 5-2.
Gary Moran (8-3) earned the win tossing five innings while allowing two runs on six hits. Gaby Hernandez (4-6) suffered the loss as he hurled six innings while allowing five runs on four hits. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 28th save as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning.
