Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (35-21) defeated the York Revolution (21-35) 6-2 before 6,103 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots powered their way to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Greg Golson (3) and a two-run blast by Kyle Roller (2).
“You always want to get started early with a guy like [Frank] Gailey out there. He’s just going to mix and match. There’s no rhyme or reason of what he throws,” said Roller. “He always throws me away, so I was just trying to stay on the baseball and luckily he gave me something good to hit.”
Justin Pacchioli added to Somerset’s lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.
Golson struck again with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 6-0.
“I’m just trying to see the ball. That’s the main thing. If I can do that, then I feel like I’m putting myself in a better position to succeed,” said Golson, who drove in four RBI in the last two games.
The Revolution got on the board with two runs in the top of the eighth inning on a Travis Witherspoon RBI double and an RBI single by Alonzo Harris that cut the lead to 6-2.
Patriots starter Rick Teasley (6-1) scattered just three hits and struck out five over seven scoreless innings pitched for the win. Frank Gailey (5-5) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits in two innings pitched.
The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 23rd when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees.
