Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (20-13, 70-33) defeated the Camden Riversharks (12-21, 40-63) 8-4 Thursday evening at Campbell’s Field.
In the top of the first inning the Patriots plated five runs to grab a 5-0 lead. Right fielder Michael Burgess registered a RBI groundout, third baseman David Vidal cranked a two run home run (6) and center fielder Jose Garcia sprayed a two RBI single.
Left fielder Aharon Eggleston socked a home run (5) in the top of the second inning to expand Somerset’s lead to 6-0.
The Patriots plated two more runs in the top of the fourth inning as Burgess and shortstop each tallied RBI doubles to increase the lead to 8-0.
Camden got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when third baseman Michael Rockett dribbled a RBI single making the score 8-1.
Reliever Gus Schlosser threw a wild pitch that led to a Riversharks run as the score became 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Riversharks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to cut the deficit to 8-4. Designated hitter Eric Frain and second baseman Paddy Matera each roped RBI singles.
Mickey Storey earned the win (8-3) tossing six innings of one run baseball. Bill Murphy suffered the loss (3-13) hurling five innings while allowing eight runs on nine hits. Jon Hunton notched his league leading 30th saving recording the final two outs of the game.
