Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (40-16) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (28-29) 8-4 Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots won their fifth game in a row while the Skeeters lost their sixth game in a row.
In the top of the first inning third baseman Patrick Palmeiro slugged a RBI double and shortstop Amadeo Zazueta blooped a RBI single to give Sugar Land a 2-0 advantage.
Right fielder Michael Burgess belted a game tying two run home run (1) in the bottom of the first inning to even the score at 2-2.
Palmeiro blasted a two run home run (4) to give Sugar Land a 4-2 lead in the top of the second inning.
Somerset erupted to score six runs on eight hits in the seventh inning to take a commanding 8-4 lead. Catcher Adam Donachie hit a RBI sacrifice fly while center fielder Jonny Tucker recorded a RBI groundout to tie the game. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston broke the tie with a go ahead RBI single. Burgess and first baseman Mat Gamel would each stroke RBI singles while third baseman Greg Hopkins added a RBI double.
Daniel Sattler earned the win (3-1) in relief. Andrew Carpenter suffered the loss (3-3) in relief.
