Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (14-7) and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (14-9) split a doubleheader from Regency Furniture Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Blue Crabs won game one 5-4 in nine innings while the Patriots doubled up the Blue Crabs 4-2 in the second contest.
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-4 in nine innings in game one of a doubleheader from Regency Furniture Stadium. Third baseman Renny Osuna blooped a walk-off RBI single as Somerset’s five game winning streak came to a halt.
In the top of the first inning left fielder Chris Marrero roped a RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
Shortstop Scott Kelly tallied a RBI single in the top of the second inning to expand the Patriots lead to 2-0.
Southern Maryland cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third inning when Osuna sliced a RBI single making the contest 2-1.
The Blue Crabs plated a pair in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab a 3-2 lead. Designated hitter Zach Wilson punched a RBI single while left fielder Cyle Hankerd pounded a RBI double.
The Patriots catapulted in front in the ensuing half inning as Kelly and center fielder Jonny Tucker each laced RBI singles to make the score 4-3 in favor of Somerset.
Osuna clobbered a game tying home run (2) to even the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
This was the third straight extra inning affair for each club.
Erik Hamren earned the win (2-0) in relief. David Harden suffered the loss (1-1) in relief.

Southern Maryland plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to take a 2-1 lead. Center fielder Antone DeJesus and third baseman Renny Osuna each tallied RBI singles.
The Patriots responded with three runs in the ensuing half inning to take a 4-2 lead. Catcher Adam Donachie slugged a two RBI double and another run crossed home via an Osuna error.
Sean Bierman earned the win (2-1) tossing 5.2 innings while surrendering two runs. Wade Korpi (1-1) endured the loss hurling five innings while allowing three runs. Kyler Newby notched the save (2) recording the final four outs.
