By Bill Connell, Somerset.
As a parent and active member of the community, I often get into conversations about the type of people we want as leaders. The common themes are kind, honest, and straight speaking. Mr. Seamon is all of these things. We had him as a school board member and we let him go.
Mr. Seamon was a good board member. He brought his own personal talent to the board. He has left a marvelous document in strategic plan to guide future boards to follow. He did not do all the work but he guided it with all his heart.
We often tell our children to tell the truth and he did that. Unfortunately that was not good enough. In this election he was cherry picked by three special interest groups. People who did not support the future referendum, Julia Presley supporters who publicly advocated only using one of their three votes, and teachers and para-professionals. He was accused of not supporting teachers when in fact all he was doing was advocating a balanced budget while another board member was grand standing.
Mr. Seamon I want to thank you for your service.
It has been a tumultuous year. I want the board to seriously consider whom they pick for there leadership next year. I would prefer we go into next year with a fresh outlook instead of dwelling on the ongoing issues of the past year. I do not want the doubts and concerns that many have, to cloud the serious decisions that we have to make in 2014.
Have a happy and safe Holiday. Good Luck in 2014.
