Life Story: Brian E. Gero; Classic Car Enthusiast

Brian E. Gero passed away peacefully on October 31, surrounded by his loving family.

Brian was born in Manhasset, New York, and later relocated with his family to Freehold, where he was raised. He attended St. John Vianney High School before continuing his education at Seton Hall University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. Following graduation, Brian began his professional career as a staff accountant with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells.

In 1991, while working at Revlon, he would meet the love of his life and future wife, June. The two were married in 1996 and relocated to Somerset in 1998. Throughout his career, Brian held several accounting positions before retiring from The Arc of Union County in 2026.

A car enthusiast at heart, Brian had a lifelong appreciation for classic automobiles and enjoyed owning several vehicles throughout the years, including a 1967 Chevelle and perhaps his most treasured 1973 Camaro. Brian also enjoyed saltwater fishing and, at one time, owned a boat. A devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, he recently attended a game with his son.

Above all else, Brian was a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. He enjoyed vacations with his family and would return with an inside joke from each one that endured for years. He was immensely proud of his children and made it a point to be present for all of their activities, whether attending baseball games, marching band performances, or dance recitals. Brian was also especially fond of Halloween, his favorite holiday, and took great pleasure in celebrating it with his children and family each year. His love, dedication, and unwavering support will remain cherished by all who knew him.

Brian and June were longtime parishioners of St. Matthias Church in Somerset, where they were active members of their community.

Brian was predeceased by his beloved parents, Ernest and Stephanie Gero.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, June; his cherished children, Zachary and Sydney; his two sisters, Brenda Gero and Francine Gero; his nephew Michael, and in-laws from the Braun family.

Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. November 4 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. November 5 at St. Matthias Church. All are asked to meet directly at the church on Thursday.
