Environmental Education Center Programs May 4 to 10

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as nature blooms in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-766-2489 or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org.

CHILDREN & PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Wild Kids
Sundays, May 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children age infant to 5 with a parent will cure cabin fever on an
exploration of the Great Swamp using the five senses to explore
the natural world.
Fee is $30 per pair for the 4-day session and $15 per additional child.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Forest Fitness
Tuesdays, May 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along
the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.
Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Secrets in Somerset County – Bluebell Magic – FREE PROGRAM
Wednesday, May 6 from 3:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to explore one of the wonders of Duke Island Park, the blooming of bluebell wildflowers.
The session is free.

A Trip Down Old Mine Road
Thursday, May 7 from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Adults will enjoy an historical journey along Old Mine Road, known as King’s Highway, the River Road, and the High Road to Esopus.
The travelers will venture from the Delaware Water Gap to Peters
Valley, with numerous stops along the way.
Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per youth or senior.

Planning a Native Butterfly Garden /Pollinator Garden
Friday, May 8 from 1:30 P.M.to 3:00 P.M.
Adults will join a Naturalist to learn which native plants attract which
native butterflies and moths.
Fee is $9 per person

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
