The first weekend of December in the township is usually quite busy, holiday-wise, and this one was no exception. Events held on Dec. 2 included the annual Greens and Goodies craft sale, held by the Griggstown Historical Society; the St. Matthias Crafts Sale, and the Second Chance for Animals’ Santa Paws fundraiser.

More than 200 people were on hand Nov. 24 to celebrate the inaugural Warrior 4 Life Scholarship Foundation gala at The Imperia on Easton Avenue. The exact number was 240, which represented a sell-out crowd, the organizers said.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we asked Franklin Reporter & Advocate readers what they are most thankful for. Following are some of their responses.

The inability to get a necessary part, coupled with the need for businesses to stay open, has forced the township to leave a broken water main running along Easton Avenue. The main, located on Easton Avenue in the area of the Village Plaza, has been broken since sometime on Nov. 16.

Tickets are going fast for the inaugural Warrior4Life Scholarship Foundation gala, set for 6-10 p.m.  Nov. 24 at The Imperia on Easton Avenue. The evening will feature music by the Renaissance Jazz Band, with comedian Erin Jackson acting as mistress of ceremonies.

The organizer of the township’s Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day observances was honored Nov. 13 by the Township Council. Bob LaCorte was given a commendation by the council for his “outstanding community service to the township” in donating “hundreds of hours and resources” to the two observances.

A township resident took second place recently in the New Jersey Senior Art Show, held at Meadow Lakes Senior Living in East Windsor. Dusik K. Shin’s watercolor, “Brood,” was one of five pieces by Somerset County residents winning awards at the juried show.

The township commemorated Veterans’ Day Nov. 11 with a short ceremony in the municipal building, followed by ringing of the Memorial Bell in Veterans Memorial Park. Local Boy Scouts, members of the Canal Walk Veterans club and members of the Junior ROTC battalion from Franklin High School participated in the ceremony.
