The Franklin High School’s telephone lines are still down, but district officials are hopeful the system will be repaired quickly. The phone lines went down Dec. 18, schools Superintendent Edward Seto said at the Dec. 19 Board of Education meeting.

Students at Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School, Cortelyous Lane, Somerset, held a number of charitable fundraisers over the last few weeks. The school’s “Dress-Down Week,” in which a $10 donation was made to “dress down” for one day, raised $3,290, said school principal Oguz Yildiz.

More than $9 million worth of contracts related to the proposed school referendum and energy saving program were approved at the Nov. 21 Board of Education meeting. The board awarded a $6,958,910 contract to SSP Architectural Group, Bridgewater, for architectural design and administrative services for the ambitious referendum projects and the Energy Savings Improvement Program.

A team from Rutgers Preparatory School, Somerset, placed 18th out of 150 teams recently in the Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament held in Cambridge, Mass. The school sent 24 students to the competition.

Students at Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School, Somerset, collected more than 2,000 pounds of food for the Franklin Township Food Bank for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A school for learning-disabled children will have a new home in a former office building on Riverview Drive. The Center School, currently leasing space on Old York Road in Branchburg, received Zoning Board approval at the Nov. 13 meeting to renovate the vacant three-story structure.

The Franklin Township High School Project Graduation Committee won $1,000 in a contest sponsored by Let’s Yo yogurt stores. The group received their check on Nov. 11 at the Let’s Yo on Elizabeth Avenue.
