The Princeton Hyatt Regency was once again the venue for the Franklin High School prom. More than 500 students reportedly participated in the evening, which included a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing.

The school district’s top teachers and educational support professionals were honored May 13 in a ceremony at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School in Bridgewater. Each of the district’s nine schools celebrated one teacher of the year and one educational support professional of the year during the breakfast program.

It’s a pretty safe bet the students and teachers at Hillcrest Elementary School will have good results the next time they visit their dentists. That’s because the school is collecting used oral care products in a contest through which the school could win a new playground.

Hillcrest School students will receive bottled water for the time being, in the wake of preliminary test results that show “slightly elevated” levels of lead in water from the school’s drinking fountains. As a result, all water fountains in the building have been ordered shut off by principal Albert Fico, according to a May 2 letter from him to parents.

For the second consecutive year, a Franklin Middle School student has placed first in the state and in the top five nationally in a financial literacy competition. Reynaldo Espinoza, an 8th Grader at the school, won the honors in the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Foundation’s InvestWrite competition.
