“March Madness” descended on Franklin High School March 30, in the form of the annual Franklin Middle School PTSO Tricky Tray. Hundreds of baskets lined tables set up inside the school cafeteria and in the events lobby. The baskets were comprised of a wide variety of items, from toys to travel certificates to household appliances.

Two students at Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School on Pierce Street received acknowledgement recently for winning a robotics competition. Gagan Voona and Levant Yildiz received citations from Somerset County Freeholders Shanel Y. Robinson, Deputy Director Patricia L. Walsh and Director Brian D. Levine. The township school district celebrated itself March 23 at the sixth annual Curriculum Expo and District Showcase. In addition to presentations of various educational initiatives and programs, the day featured dance and music performances and an art display by township students.

Black History Month was celebrated at Franklin Park School Feb. 28 with musical and dance performances and biographical sketches of famous black Americans. Members of the Franklin Park School Choir sang “Wade in the Water” and “O Desayo,” and students from the Franklin Park School Student College Dancers performed to “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars.

Members of Central Jersey College Prep Charter School’s Black Student Union led the schools celebration of Black History Month Feb. 28. The program included a presentation of famous black Americans as well as musical and dance performances.

More than 1,000 applicants vied for 26 open spots in the annual lottery held Feb. 2 by Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School. The 26 slots are in the school’s Kindergarten, said Oguz Yildiz, the school’s Lead Person.

Alyssa Kowalsky of Somerset, a Hospitality Resort and Tourism Management Pre-Major major was one of more than 2,400 students at Coastal Carolina University who were named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. Amanda Lake of Somerset was honored for academic achievement by being named to the Dean’s List at Delaware Valley University for the Fall 2018 semester.
