Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-41, 42-89) defeated the Somerset Patriots (33-28, 80-51) 6-5 in 11 innings Thursday evening from Harbor Yard. Pitcher David Harden threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning that plated pinch runner Joe Mather as the Bluefish salvaged a split in this mini two game set.
In the top of the first inning third baseman Corey Smith sliced a RBI double to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
Second baseman Ramon Castro stroked a RBI single in the bottom of the second inning to even the contest at 1-1.
First baseman Daryle Ward cranked a go ahead two run home run (8) in the top of the fourth inning to put the Patriots in front 3-1.
The Bluefish tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Castro and first baseman Luis Lopez socked RBI singles.
Bridgeport grabbed a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning as Lopez tallied a two RBI single.
The Patriots tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning thanks to a RBI singles by designated hitter Aharon Eggleston and shortstop Edwin Maysonet.
Winston Abreu (3-7) earned the win in relief. Harden (3-6) sustained the loss in relief.
