Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (1-0) defeated the Somerset Patriots (0-1) 3-1 Wednesday night in Game One of the Liberty Division Series from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Barnstormers lead the best-of-five series 1-0. Lancaster scored three unanswered runs to take the series opener.
In the top of the second the Patriots tallied back-to-back-to-back two out singles to plate a run and take a 1-0 advantage. All-Star catcher Adam Donachie ripped a hard RBI single to left field as the Patriots scored first.
Left fielder Blake Gailen cranked a two run home run (1) after third baseman Olmo Rosario doubled to start the fourth inning to give Lancaster a 2-1 lead. It was Gailen’s sixth home run of the year against the Patriots.
Rosario smacked a RBI single through the drawn in infield in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Lancaster an insurance run making the contest 3-1 which would be the final.
Chris Schwinden (1-0) earned the win striking out seven batters in 7.2 innings of work while only allowing one run. Matt Maloney (0-1) endured the loss hurling six frames while surrendering two runs. Jason Urquidez notched the save (1) pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, September 26th when the Patriots are home at TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
