Thomas DiGanci, former principal at Watching Hills Regional High School, was named Franklin High School’s interim principal at the July 31 Board of Education meeting. DiGanci is expected to start in his new position on Aug. 11, according to a release from the district. His appointment runs through June 30, 2015.

Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (12-9, 51-40) defeated the Somerset Patriots (12-10, 59-33) 11-3 Thursday evening from TD Bank Ballpark. Lancaster first baseman Gabe Jacobo went 5-for-5 with six RBI as he became the second Barnstormers player to ever hit for the cycle.  

July 25 Cars driven by Jacquelin Perrine of Kendall Park and Emma Singh of Monmouth Junction collided while they were both backing out of parking spaces in the Route 27 Stop n Shop lot.

You don’t have to exercise every day, but you do have to move every day. That’s the mantra of Franklin Park resident Joanne Overbaugh who, for the past two years or so, has been leading seniors at the Quail Brook Senior Citizens Center in weekly “movement for life” classes.

An incumbent and an unsuccessful candidate in last year’s Board of Education election are joined by four others in seeking the three open board seats this November. An additional two candidates are seeking a 1-year unexpired term.

John Calavano, the Board of Education’s business administrator and assistant schools Superintendent, has resigned. Calavano said in an email that he submitted his 60-day notice on July 29.

The Franklin Township Baseball League’s 15 and under All Star team has won the Northern New Jersey Babe Ruth State Championship, and the league’s 8 and under team won the South Brunswick Viking Tournament. The older team is now poised to play in the mid-Atlantic regional tournament, set for Aug. 1-8 in Niskayuna, NY.
