Anytime Fitness has teamed up with a celebrity chef to help provide Thanksgiving meals to the needy, and to help people burn off the Thanksgiving meal calories.
The fitness company, with a location at Franklin Boulevard and Hamilton Street, has partnered with Chef G. Garvin in producing a #BurnTheTurkey recipe collection that takes a tongue-in-cheek look at exercise.
The collection includes exercise “recipes” such as the Cranberry Bicep Curl, the Gravy Pour and Couch Plank-Outs, according to a release about the event.
Township residents are invited to share their own #BurnTheTurkey ideas between now and Nov. 30 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, according to the release. For every original photo or video submitted using the hashtag #BurnTheTurkey, Anytime Fitness will donate one meal to Feeding America, an organization that helps needy families.
“Thanksgiving is such a great time of the year with so many delicious foods to enjoy, but sometimes, we enjoy them a little too much,” Garvin said in the release. “That’s why I’m partnering with Anytime Fitness to unveil our #BurnTheTurkey Recipe Collection. We’ve created some ‘exercise recipes’ that include simple ‘ingredients’ you can find at home.”
- The Cranberry Curl: Work those biceps by doing curls with cans of cranberry sauce. No
sugar needed. - The Gravy Pour: Bend your body to form a handle and a spout. Hold. Rest. Repeat.
- The Whip: Kick it into high gear while hand-whipping your favorites like stuffing and mashed
potatoes. People will enjoy watching you whip. - Small Talk Wall Sits: Stuck talking with your overly enthusiastic aunt? Pass the time by doing
wall sits and listening intently to every word she says. - Couch Plank-Outs: You don’t even need to get off the couch for this one, or take your eyes
off the football game. Score bragging rights by planking during each timeout. - Lunging Around: Show your guests how important they are by lunging toward them as you
deliver a tray of drinks and dessert. Everyone will think this is completely normal, and your
quads will thank you.
“We want to help people get to a healthier place,” Daniella Harris, owner of Anytime Fitness in Somerset, said in the release. “BurnTheTurkey is all about giving people the nod to go ahead and enjoy the big feast, but also get creative and dream up fun ways to burn some of those calories.”
