York, PA – The York Revolution (11-19) salvaged the series finale against the Somerset Patriots (21-9) by winning 5-4 Monday evening from Santander Stadium. The Patriots snapped their four game winning streak while the Revolution ended their six game losing streak.
In the bottom of the first inning third baseman Bryan Pounds and first baseman Andres Perez each slapped RBI singles to give York a 2-0 advantage.
Shortstop Wilson Valdez recorded a RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the second inning as the Revolution expanded its lead to 3-0.
Valdez ripped a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth frame to extend the Revolution lead to 4-0.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when catcher James Skelton poked a RBI single making the contest 4-1.
Catcher Luis De La Cruz stroked a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning making the score 5-1 in favor of York.
Somerset plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning as shortstop Robert Andino hammered a RBI double while center fielder Scott Cousins socked a RBI single as the York lead dwindled to 5-3.
In the top of the ninth inning designated hitter Mat Gamel hit a RBI groundout to make the score 5-4 which would be the final.
Anthony Lerew earned the win (3-1) tossing five innings while allowing just one run despite walking five batters. Lucas Irvine sustained the loss (1-4) as he surrendered four runs on a season-high nine hits in four innings of work. Josh Judy earned the save (5) pitching the final inning.
