The Board of Education elected a new leadership team at its Jan. 5 reorganization meeting.

Ed Potosnak was elected board president and Nancy LaCorte was elected vice president in split votes. Both counts went 6-2 for the winners, with board members Richard Arline and Betty Whalen voting for Arline in both positions. Former board president Julia Presley did not attend the meeting.

Potosnak, who is serving his first full term as a board member after winning election last November, said he was “humbled” by his colleges’ support.

“It is an honor to serve my fellow board members in this capacity and I am eager to help raise the bar for our students, parents, faculty, and staff to improve student achievement and career readiness,” Potosnak said. “We have a lot of important work to do including the referendum and filling key senior administrator positions, either of which would be significant on their own. We’ve already begun taking significant steps forward and I intend to accelerate our progress and foster creativity.”

“I’m confident with the help of our talented staff, and members of the Franklin community, my colleagues and I are up to these critical challenges,” he said.

LaCorte said that “by working together, we can get things done.”

In addition to Potosnak, Latee Walton McCleod and Patricia Stanley were sworn in to three-year seats, and Margaret Steele was sworn in to the one-year unexpired term of former board member Robert Trautmann.
