Car Burglaries Net More Than $5,000 in Cash and Items

A watch valued at $5,000 was one of the items stolen in three car burglaries that occurred sometime late in the night of Sept. 12 or early the next morning, police said.

In the first case reported, at about 9:18 a.m. on Sept. 13, Prashant Kumar of Green Hill Manor Drive told police that someone had stolen a pair of generic sunglasses worth $20 and $80 in cash from his car.

Kumar told police that he was not sure if he’d locked the car. Police said no signs of forcible entry were evident.

A little later that morning, at about 9:54 a.m., Shondel Toledo of La Salle Court told police that someone stole a pair of Oakley sunglasses valued at $160 and $5 in cash from his car. Toledo told police that the burglar also rummaged through the vehicle, but did not take anything else.

Toledo also told police that he was not sure if the car was locked.

Later that evening, at about 7:35 p.m., Ian Scherzer of Van Wickle Drive told police that someone stole a Breitling watch valued at $5,000 and $50 in cash from his truck.

Scherzer told police that he noticed the passenger side door of his truck was ajar when he returned from work and found the watch missing.

Scherzer told police he thought it happened the night before because, he said, he thought he heard the sound of his truck door closing, but he did not investigate.

Scherzer said he wasn’t sure if he’d locked the doors and activated the truck’s alarm.
